<image:caption>From the artist: Serenity is the first of four works in my series, “Moments of Quiet.” The work uses water to convey the feelings experienced during a moment in life. The silence that follows sinking your head underwater illustrates the relieving moments unbothered by deadlines, responsibilities, and commitments. Produced only with shades of blue exemplifies the coherence in the self-revitalizing feeling.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Res Art - Hector Rivera | Mother and daughter | l ead on paper | 2022 | 11” x 14”.</image:title>
<image:caption>From the artist: Depicting the Virgin Mary with an aura of darkness, I attempt to reject my culture’s conventional values that generalize women as a symbol of purity. Introduced by European colonizers as a symbol of femininity, The Virgin Mary exposes patriarchal undertones that prize virginal purity rather than Mary’s importance and power. However, once that conformity is rejected, Mary becomes autonomous over her own image, no longer just a mother to a son. Ultimately, it is up to you in your interpretation.</image:caption>

<image:caption>From the artist: The use of bleaching and the addition of overlaying words obscure the presentation of the photograph, emphasizing the likely future we face and our contribution toward it. Leaving vehicles and industrial buildings unbleached adds to the difficulty for you to distance yourself from acknowledging your role in contributing. This work is meant to disturb you, to leave a lasting presence in your mind.</image:caption>

<image:caption>From the artist: The third piece in my four-part series, “Moments of Quiet,” A Still Summer shares the little moment of still silence that allows us to recharge in a contemporary fast-paced life. The painting represents a slow breath through the imperfect lines and blended edges while you take in your surroundings to feel content in the little flashes of solitude.</image:caption>

My goal isn’t to convince or upset but to discuss perspectives typically seen as different or irregular. I operate through positive nihilism and expose my audience with blasphemous symbols. For those who reject or are speculative conformity, they mean the opposite of what I’ve been raised to think. They provide the opportunity to break free from conventional ideologies of conformity and control.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Art (Copy) - Francesca Ross | Toxic Contamination | Bleach on photograph | 2022, 18” x 12” | Bath, England</image:title>

      <image:title>Art (Copy) - Romy Binstein | A Still Summer | From “Moments of Quiet” | Acrylic, watercolor, and colored pencil on poster paper | 2022 | 22” x 28”</image:title>

<image:caption>Henry Backus Cup Forged Charcoal on paper 2022 From the artist: I offer a piece of myself through my work.

      <image:title>Art (Copy) - Hector Rivera | Mother and daughter | l ead on paper | 2022 | 11” x 14”.</image:title>

      <image:title>Midnight Sun - Midnight Sun</image:title>
<image:caption>What does the sun do at night But sit in silence, in sorrow, Waiting for her blinding sight Seen by those, all those, tomorrow? But tomorrow seems too far to bear, She weeps, she grieves, without alation. With graying golden hairs, she cries with a deep despair: “No way out, the tribulation!” Why does the sun, the wise Divine, Think mortal thoughts in a fixate Of only now? For now, future lacks define, Intensely blinded by her own damned fate. In her darkness, she is no longer The goddess who shines, but becomes Me and you and he and she. With a hunger For happiness impulsively driving, destroying all her doldrums. But soon her eye will raise the sky And lonely thoughts begin to fade. For endless shadow-boxing now at rest, Now the morning birds can nest. - Lauren Glogoff (BU ‘24)</image:caption>
